Ants – If you see ants in your garage, it might not immediately be a concern to you. They’re most likely after your recycling bin or pet food you store out there. But the real problem isn’t that they’re in your garage, it’s that your garage is simply a stepping stone for them getting into your house.
You might say to yourself “there’s no garage door on earth with a perfect enough seal to keep out ants!” At this point, you have to play the numbers…seal off as much as you can so that the chances of an ant scout finding an opening are as unlikely as possible.
Mice – For most of us seeing a mouse in the garage makes our skin crawl, even if we usually like furry little creatures. Much like ants, mice are looking for food and are perfectly happy to eat whatever you’ve left in the garage. While Ohio hasn’t seen any cases of the deadly Hantavirus deer mice carry, we’re right next to the eastern state with the most cases, Pennsylvania. We’ll be seeing cases before too long, and you don’t want to be the first.
Ticks – Certainly you’re most likely to find ticks in the woods, but they can wander into your garage, especially when it starts to get cold. Ticks might be the hardest critter to keep out of your garage because of how flat their bodies are.
Snakes – While you’re most likely to be startled by a garter snake that made its way into your garage, there are three venomous snakes in Ohio that you’ll want to make sure to keep out: the eastern timber rattlesnake, northern copperhead, and the massasauga rattlesnake. You really don’t want to find these in your garage!
